Treasures come in all shapes and sizes
Weeks ago I posted a story about a smugglers vessel that ran aground on a reef off Pemuteran.
Well big swell and rains have done there work and bits of that once fine vessel are drifting around the coast. Or in the case of many larger pieces, being recycled by enterprising fishermen.

Smugglers run aground
A few days or more correctly nights ago smugglers ran afoul of Tankad Jaran, one of our local reefs. Story goes that once the crew realised they were well and truly stuck and taking on water, they basically scarpered. The vessel, a local wooden phinisi style cargo ship, common to the water of Indonesia was apparently carrying barrels of Solar (Diesel) to be sold offshore presumably to international vessels.
The Ship has no license or paperwork so apparently no owner. Pol Air (or marine police), have already removed the cargo but could not remove the ship from the reef. Discussions are in process to make this a permanent and hopefully slightly deeper wreck
Funnily enough Tankad Jaran is also home to the Canyon Wreck, another vessel that ran aground on the same feef many years ago and was later reclaimed and permanently sunk only a couple hundred meters away to the East. Tankad Jaran is also home to the BioWreck and Kuberan Kapal (Ships graveyard) all part of the 2005 local ‘Reef Gardeners‘ environmental project here in Pemuteran. Which also included the now famous ‘Underwater Temple‘.
With luck this unfortunate vessel will become a thriving little ecosystem in the days to come.

Pos 3, Coral Garden
At the back of Menjangan Island is Pos 3 a popular spot for snorkeling and the nearest access point to the main Temple at Menjangan Island. Next to the jetty at Pos 3 heading to the West is the Coral Gardens. Shallow water, beautiful corals, loads of fish. What more do you need.
